When and How to give proper notice

Tenants must give 30 days written notice before moving.

Under the Landlord and Tenant act, a notice from tenant to landlord must:

It can be delivered in person or sent by regular or certified mail.

You can give notice to end your rental agreement at any time during the rental period, but you must pay full rent during the period covered by the notice. If you leave part of the way through a rental period, divide your weekly rent by seven to calculate the daily rate and pay only for the days that you occupy the property.

Giving advance notice isn't just a convenience, its a basin law everyone must observe. Keep in mind that unless another renter is taking over and paying rent, you may be charged the full 30 days, even if you've packed up and moved out.

 Cleaning and Damages

When you move out, try to leave the place clean. This includes; the oven, stove, toilets, tubs, fridges, floors and storage areas. If you leave the place damages or dirty the landlord has the right to bill you. They could also take you to Small Claims Court to recover costs.

It may be worth it to pay for a professional cleaner. If everyone shares the cost, you could hire someone at a sensible price to do the vile cleaning (such as oven, fridge and bathrooms) while everyone else shares the smaller cleaning duties.
